Who was the biggest bust in NFL history?

March Madness has begun!

Never mind the NCAA tourney, we’re talking football in March.

Thanks to all of you who voted for the worst bust in Raider history. The majority went with Todd Marinovich, that was a given as he grabbed over 70% of the vote. In a distant second was a man still on the Raider roster, Michael Huff.

Now that you picked the two worst busts to ever wear Silver and Black, it’s time to pick the worst busts to ever play in the NFL. Does Marinovich have what it takes to go all the way? You decide!

The FanSided.com Sports Network has started the Worst Man Drafted Tourney, a field of 64 busts will compete for your votes to be declared the worst draft pick of all-time!

Throw our Raider busts under the bus or feel free to push through a few Charger, Chief and Bronco picks.

Tourney main page: Worst Man Drafted Tournament

West Region: Ryan Leaf is the #1 seed, Marinovich is #2. We could be looking at a fierce battle for worst QB to ever play in the AFC West with a birth in the Final Four at stake.  The best first round match up is the #8 seed Pacman Jones against #9 Fred-ex Mitchell

East Region: This is the QB bracket. Todd Blackledge, Tommy Maddox, Jim Druckenmiller, Alex Smith, David Carr, Akili Smith, Heath Shuler: That’s a who’s who of nobodies. The best match up might just be an upset with #2 Heath Shuler looking over his shoulder at former XFL MVP, the #15 seed Tommy Maddox. But 49er clipboard jockey Alex Smith, as a #13 seed, might just be the lock for a bracket busting victory over #4 seeded Todd Blackledge.

North Region: Here we find our own Micheal Huff as a #16 seed. Can he make history and pull off the upset by knocking off  #1 seeded Tony Mandarich?

South Region: The South might be the toughest bracket. #7 Rae Carruth vs #10 Kyle Brady, #8 Cade McNown vs #9 Ken O’Brien, #6 Maurice Clarett vs #11 Mike Williams (the OT not the WR, that Mike Williams is in the East).

Get out and vote! Feel free to spread the word! If you want to drop a few comments to have your voice heard or to complain about the selection committee, feel free.

Why is Brian Bosworth not on this list? Perhaps his brief NFL career was given a lift from his stellar acting career.

  • Chris Shellcroft

    Nice call, David T!

I agree with you. As far as I know the Seahawk fans voted Dan McGwire and Rick Mirer as their biggest busts over the Boz. I think you’re right about his acting. He won an Oscar, right? Ha!

  • NetRaider

    Bosworth #1

  • Bryan O’Connor

I HATE TO BE THE ONE TO SAY THIS…..BUT thebiggest BUS in NFL history has to be Ernie Davis, I know the WHOLE story, but has there EVER been a #1 OVERALL all draft pick who ONLY practiced with his twice and NEVER stepped on the field to play a game? I know EVERYONE with think i’m cold hearted, but even THE BOZ “played” for Seattle…. SORRY people, NOT trying to be a BAD guy but just LOOK at the #1 pick and what he di ON the field, the answer is NOTHING for the browns…..

  • Bryan O’Connor

AND HOW CAN MAURICE CLARETE BE ON THERE? HE WAS DRAFTED……. MUCH LESS DRAFTED HIGH!

  • Bryan O’Connor

WASN’T DRAFTED…. HE WAS JUST SIGNED AS A FREE AGENT…..

  • Chris Shellcroft

    Hey Bryan,

Clarett was a third round pick in 2005. He might not have been a first round bust, but many were surprised that Mike Shanahan would select him on the first day of the draft.

But I feel you, I think he was a news story more than a bust since little was expected of him amid all his turmoil and poor workouts.

  • Rutger

Bryan O’Connor, you’re an asshole. Ernie Davis died a year after he was drafted of leukemia so he couldn’t really do anything
