Oakland Roster Trim Begins
And then there were 75 men left standing. The Oakland Raiders have parted ways with five players to get down to the league mandated total of 75. Among those released are center Jonathan Campos, wide receivers Shawn Bayes and Will Franklin, defensive tackle Joe Cohen and offensive lineman Marcus Johnson. The next wave of cuts will be this Saturday as another 22 Raiders will be released in order to get down to the opening day total of 53. Also, Nnamdi Asomugha will see a specialist for the bone chip in his wrist, an injury sustained in the first half of [...]
5 Quick Fixes for the Raiders
Yes, I fully realize that this is just the preseason. But if what you’ve seen from the Oakland Raiders, specifically the defense, over the course of the first three exhibition games doesn’t alarm you in some way shape or form then you must be from the George W. Bush school of reading the warning signs of a dwindling economy. Even in victory over the Cowboys, the first team defense couldn’t stop the run. In a one point loss to the 49ers, the defense allowed 275 yards on the ground to the second, third and scout team running backs. Most recently, [...]
Raiders still have the perfect recipe for disaster
The Oakland Raiders should thank the New Orleans Saints for handing them an embarrassing 45-7 loss on Saturday. Now the players and coaches can rest knowing that their work is done. In one preseason game, the Raiders managed to show the football world what happens when the front office sits on their hands, the coaching staff rests on their laurels and the players show up just to collect checks. If there was a game plan to defend the Saints, then it must have been implemented in the tunnel five minutes before the Raiders took the field. Drew Brees must have [...]
On October 12th, 2008, the New Orleans Saints beat the Oakland Raiders like a steel drum in Trinidad during carnival. The Raiders struck first on a 24-yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal. It would be the only time the scoreboard operator in the Superdome would have to touch the Raider point tally. After 320 yards and three TD passes from Drew Brees, the Saints walked away with a 34-3 victory. Tomorrow, the Saints come into Oakland for the third preseason game. The game might not count in the final standings, but rest assured that JaMarcus Russell hasn’t forgotten his team’s wretched performance [...]
The Best Quotes of the Oakland Raiders During Camp
The Oakland Raiders have concluded their final practice of training camp in Napa. Thanks to David White and Jerry McDonald for their blow-by-blow accounts of practice via Twitter each day. They gave Raider fans everywhere a bird’s eye view of their favorite team as they prepare for the regular season. In honor of the Raiders making it through 33 practices in 31 days, here are the best quotes during camp. The Best of Javon Walker “I’m excited about still letting Oakland see what Javon has to offer because I’m young. I’m in my prime right now. My ability hasn’t changed, [...]
The Fantasy Football Survival Guide for Raider Nation
So, you’re a lifelong fan of the Silver and Black who also enjoys the great American pastime of playing fantasy football. You love your team but just wish JaMarcus Russell would put up numbers that would make Rich Gannon drool. Well, since Gannon’s career has come to an end, there really hasn’t been any Raider who could be considered a fantasy stud. Fear not! There are still Raiders worth a spot on your roster. Here’s how I rank ‘em. The Potential Studs Darren McFadden – Run-DMC’s rookie season was much ado about nothing due to injuries. None the less, he [...]

Tuesday Link Dump: The 2010 Raiderette Edition
In honor of the release of the 2010 Raiderette Calendar, here are the best links of Tuesday. Enjoy! Don’t forget to order your Raiderette Calendar now! Warren Sapp loves Steel Panther – When he’s not being an ass, Sapp enjoys the music of the best cover band in all the land. NFL Locker Room Songs – A song for every team in the NFL. I would argue that Toxicity by System of a Down might be a better song for the Broncos, but that’s just the opinion of one Raider fan. 2009 NFL Predictions – At least he didn’t drink [...]
Napoleon Harris is back in Silver and Black
What a long, strange trip it’s been for Napoleon Harris. Harris was selected by the Raiders as the 23rd overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft out of Northwestern. He quickly found his way into the starting lineup for the next three years before being shipped off to Minnesota as part of the fruitless trade that brought Randy Moss to the East Bay. Harris spent two years as a Viking before playing one season in Kansas City. After a year as a Chief, Napoleon returned to Minnesota where he started five games at linebacker in 2008. On Monday, the Raiders [...]
Raiders Remain Run Defenseless
It was déjà vu all over again for Raider fans on Saturday night. Never mind that 49er third round selection Glen Coffee ran for 129-yards in the first half alone. Forget the fact that former Penn State quarterback turned running back Michael Robinson tallied 97-yards on the ground and some rookie trying to make the 9er 53-man roster named Kory Sheets got half way to the century mark as well on the Raiders and their non-existent run defense. The names don’t really matter at this point. The sight is all too familiar. It is a sight that has been seen [...]
