Not that Raider Nation needed any further proof that Nnamdi Asomugha is the most dedicated man to wear the Silver and Black since Rich Gannon, but the All-Galaxy cornerback wanted to make sure fans in the Black Hole will get to see the highest paid DB in league history on opening night.
After reports this morning circulated stating that Asomugha was at risk to miss the Monday Night opener against the San Diego Chargers, Nnamdi took it upon himself to let the world know otherwise.
I’ll be fine for the San Diego game.
I’ll play in the opener, no problem. … This isn’t that bad.
The former Cal Bear saw a specialist for a wrist injury he sustained on the first play of the game against New Orleans where it was determined that Nnamdi sustained a small fracture and cartilage damage. He’ll have to wear a cast of some sorts and will most likely be limited in using his hands to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage.
Asomugha has already attained the crown as the least thrown at defender in football, now he’s really going to be out to prove his worth. So much of what factors into the Raider defensive scheme is predicated on press coverage. At risk of inflicting more damage, Asomugha is going to have to let his feet do the covering until the injury subsides.
To all of you who want to see a clinic in footwork for a defensive back, do yourselves a favor and tune in on September 14th. Class starts at 7:15pm. Vincent Jackson will be the first pupil Nnamdi takes to school in 2009.
