Somewhere between “taking a firm stance” and “ignorantly moving forward” lie the Raiders and their handling of the Richard Seymour situation.
CSNbayarea.com cites Raiders play-by-play announcer Greg Papa as stating that the Oakland brass is standing pat in their efforts to force Seymour into a Raider jersey in 2009 even if he never plays a single down.
Papa said the Raiders’ position, simply put is: they want the player.
Papa also said the Raiders have sent a letter to Seymour saying he had five days upon receipt to report to the Raiders and take a physical.
Failure to do so could result in Seymour being placed on the Raiders’ roster/suspended. This would mean the Raiders could keep him on the roster/suspended for this season and then retain his rights in 2010 for his 2009 salary.
When the Raiders sent the letter is not precisely known, however.
With a policy of keeping matters in-house, the Raiders have insured that no news will trickle out to a curious public. If there are contract talks or even another trade in the works then we’ll all find out after it has happened and not before. Sorry, Florio. That’s just the Raider Way.
