McFadden out, Cable in doubt and Green gives the o-line a bailout

McFadden's fumbles are the least of his problems now.

When it rains it pours and right about now you’d need a rubber raft to weather the monsoon in Oakland.

Jerry McDonald has reported that the Raiders are to be without second year running back turned tackling dummy Darren McFadden for the next 2 to 4 weeks. Run DMC is going to need surgery for a meniscus tear.

McFadden’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time as the Raiders are preparing to enter the toughest stretch of their 2009 schedule. Given the manner in which the Raiders have run the ball lately, it is not a crushing blow but it does limit the number of bodies Tom Cable has at his disposal to run into the teeth of opposing defenses.

The 2-4 week timeline seems optimistic at best. Any time a running back needs any type of knee surgery it is a bad sign. McFadden’s disappointing rookie year was marred by turf toe injuries and now his even worse sophomore season is headed down the same path.

The good news is that starting right tackle Cornell Green will be unable to commit a false start for at least the next two weeks as he too is out with a calf injury. One of the great mysteries of our time has been how Green has kept his starting job the last two years. This could be a case of addition by subtraction for the Raiders.

Oh, did I mention that there is already talk of what would happen should Tom Cable be arrested or suspended by the league for his pending assault case in Napa?

Depending on who you believe, Cable is reported to be next in line for a sit down with Roger Goodell, could be arrested now that the Napa Police Department is submitting their investigation to the DA’s office or could be the second consecutive Raider head coach not to make it through the regular season.

These days all the news coming out of Raider country is bad. If Cable is hoping to play the underdog card with his team then this is the perfect opportunity. It is hard to believe that things could get much worse but then you realize that it is only the first week of October.

Is it too early to start making Taylor Mays jerseys in Silver and Black?
