Round and round we go!
With each passing day a former Raider becomes a Raider again and a current Raider becomes a former Raider…again.
Justin Miller was released by the Raiders to make room for running back Gary Russell who was added to the active roster today. The irony is that both Miller and Russell were among the final 22 Raiders cut on the last day of roster trimming.
Louis Rankin made the final cut ahead of Russell on the strength of a great performance in the final preseason game in Seattle. After Nick Miller’s shin splint turned out to be a stress fracture, Rankin was handed the kick return duties. Rankin’s poor performance led to Justin Miller’s re-signing. Justin got a one week audition against Houston and was then let go to make room for Russell to rejoin the roster due to Darren McFadden’s knee injury.
Got all that?
In addition, former Raider Langston Walker was given a try out as well now that the team is minus Cornell Green for the next two weeks.
Due to the inefficiency of all four Raiders who have returned kicks this year, I’d like to offer the following list to Tom Cable and Al Davis. All of the below have returned kicks as a member of the Silver and Black at some point in time and all are available.
Doug Gabriel is currently on the roster of the Florida Tuskers in the UFL and I’m sure he’d be more than willing to become a Raider…again.
