The Bay Area is becoming the epicenter for professional football’s most exotic collection of busts to play the quarterback position.

In a bold move to one up the San Francisco 49ers, the Oakland Raiders are reported to be bringing in former Buffalo Bill bust J.P. Losman. The move would seem to indicate that Bruce Gradkowski’s dueling knee injures will end his season.

Losman, the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2004 draft, led the Las Vegas Locomotives to the championship in the inaugural season of the UFL. A So-Cal native, Losman will join JaMarcus Russell in Oakland and Alex Smith across the Bay, thus forming the Bermuda Triangle of quarterback talent.

    I am willing to bet Losman is better than Russell. Anyway, the Raiders had to bring somebody in because all teams need 3 QB’s on the active roster. It’s not like he will see any playing time unless he shows up Frye and Russell, well, he should show up Russell. Also the Raiders don’t have a big selection of unemployed QB’s sitting around this time of year.

    So why is Losman a bust? more of a insurance policy.

    JP Losman is a good QB with a STRONG arm and there is no reason to believe he is less of an answer than Ski or Frye long term. Russell is too fat and lazy to succeed at anything besides eating.

    Phil,

    In my book, if a QB is picked in the first round and is out of the NFL in 5 years (as Losman was) then he is a bust.

    All Losman is in town for is to fill the roster spot. I’m not saying he is a bust because he arrived in Oakland. He was a bust when the Bills benched him for Trent Edwards then cut him loose and nobody else came calling except the UFL.

    this guy is here for one reason and one reason only: to insure that we don’t have to see J.Russ hit the field for the rest of this season. One thing is clear this guy is NOT ready for prime time!

    Yeah, a “bust” at veteran minimum. Just like Plunkett started out with us. Everyting to gain and nothing to lose.
