The official NFL franchise and transitional tag numbers for 2010 have been released and all signs indicate another off-season of multi-million dollar checks being cut by Al Davis. Between Richard Seymour and Sebastian Janikowski, Mr. Davis would have to commit more than $15 million in salary for 2010 alone if he is unable to sign both prized free agents to new deals. Seymour would earn $12.398 million as a franchise tagged defensive end while Janikowski’s mega leg is valued at $2.814 million. Nate Kaeding, the “mentally weak” All-Pro place kicker for the San Diego Chargers, has pulled out of the Pro Bowl due to a groin injury. His roster spot will be filled by Dan Carpenter of the Miami Dolphins. Once again, Sebastian Janikowski has been over looked. From a distance, Carpenter’s numbers look good but when compared to Janikowski’s, there is a striking difference in class. Carpenter, like Seabass, only missed three field goals all year long. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Hue Jackson has agreed to become the offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders. Though the Raiders have yet to announce it, Adam Schefter is reporting the hiring of Mike Waufle as the new defensive line coach in the East Bay. Waufle held the same position with the Raiders from 1998-2003 before spending the last five seasons with the New York Giants.   While the hire has yet to be made official, it does raise a few questions. Despite reports to the contrary, Stanford head coach Jim Harbuagh was never interviewed by Al Davis for any position in the Raiders’ organization. Joe Fortenbaugh of the National Football Post quotes Jack Bechtha, Harbaugh’s agent, in his report. “There is no truth to the rumors that Jim Harbaugh or I have met with the Raiders,” Bechta said. “Further, Jim has not interviewed with nor been offered the head coaching job of the Oakland Raiders. The San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Tribune and ESPN are all reporting stories of Al Davis interviewing potential candidates to either replace Tom Cable or to join his staff should Cable remain head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2010. This morning, All-Universe cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha participated in the roundtable discussion segment known as 1st and 10 on ESPN’s First Take.
