This morning, All-Universe cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha participated in the roundtable discussion segment known as 1st and 10 on ESPN’s First Take. As you might expect, the panel picked his brain on everything from LeBron James ditching the dunk contest to who is the best cornerback in the NFL.
To the surprise of none, Aso took that talking gas bag, Skip Bayless, behind the woodshed as he broke down all the reasons why #21 is better than Darrelle Revis. While Nnamdi didn’t out right say he is better, he made a strong case for anybody who has ever played on the island for the Raiders and has had success in the traditional Sliver and Black man-to-man scheme.
Of course, there was the obligatory, “should Tom Cable come back next year” debate as well.
Nnamdi responded with the following answer:
“Let’s talk about a couple of CONs. CONfidence and CONtinunity. Those are two things that would help us out a lot if Tom Cable does comeback.”
“You look at the record, you’re like, they were 5-11 again but we never felt like a 5-11 team.”
Since the season ended, Nnamdi has been very vocal in his desire to see Cable in CONtrol of the team in 2010. One could say that the Pro Bowl bound cornerback can’t CONtain his warm feelings for his head coach.
While most of the Oakland locker room is of the same opinion as Asomugha, Cable CONtinues to wait for Al Davis to make his decision.
When asked if he felt that the team has a proven leader at quarterback in Bruce Gradkowski, Nnamdi responded with a one word answer.
I guess you could CONsider that an indirect shot at the Mardi Gras king himself, JaMarcus Russell.
While Raider Nation awaits Mr. Davis to decide the fate of Cable, let’s hope he takes into account what Nnamdi and countless other players have said thus far. Let’s also hope that Davis doesn’t listen to anything Skip Bayless has to say.
Who does Bayless think should be the head coach in Oakland next season?
I’m just going to chalk Skip’s answer up to him being CONfused between Rob and his twin brother Rex.
