Al Davis dusts off the stopwatch

AUTHOR: | IN: Al Davis, Draft, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

That special time of the year is once again upon us. That time when football players are judged not for their ability to play the game but instead on their appearance in shorts and a t-shirt. That time when millions are either gained or lost in a few hundreds of a second. I’m speaking, of course, of the NFL Draft Combine. For many, the combine is an opportunity to see the top prospects in the draft up close and personal. It is the chance to poke and prod human beings like meat in an open air market. For Al Davis, [...]

NFL powerless to punish Tom Cable

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Raiders, Tom Cable | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Much to the chagrin of ESPN, the NFL will not punish Tom Cable. Citing a statue of limitations of sorts, Greg Aiello of the league office declared any incidents that may have occurred prior to Cable’s arrival in the NFL to be outside of their jurisdiction. Therefore ESPN’s witch hunt did little more than to unnecessarily smear Coach Cable while simultaneously lending credence to those stereotypical notions of the Raider organization. Thanks for that Disney. Your tireless work ethic and upstanding journalistic integrity are paramount in the sports world. Ignoring Ben Roethlisberger’s rape allegations while instead choosing to dig up dirt [...]

Raiders slap $12-million tag on Richard Seymour

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Raiders | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Ron Borges of the Boston Herald reports that the Oakland Raiders have placed the franchise tag on Richard Seymour. For his troubles, Seymour will earn a cool $12.398-million in 2010 while the team continues to negotiate a long term deal.   This moment seemed all but inevitable when Al Davis gave up a first round pick in 2011 for Seymour’s services.  The 5-time Pro Bowler took his sweet time in reporting to the Raiders due in part to the shocking news that he’d been traded from the New England Patriots, the only NFL franchise he’d ever played for. While the versatile [...]

Randy Hanson takes Tom Cable, Raiders to court

AUTHOR: | IN: Raiders | COMMENTS: None Yet

After the Napa district attorney decided that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Tom Cable on assault charges, most assumed they’d heard the last of Randy Hanson and his broken jaw. Surprise! He’s back and this time it’s personal! Various outlets are reporting that Hanson has filed a lawsuit in Alameda County against Cable and the Oakland Raiders for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. All while he’s still employed by the Raiders, mind you. It must have been very difficult for Hanson to collect all those checks for all these months while continuing to work in such [...]

Al Davis attempts to move the immovable

AUTHOR: | IN: Nnamdi Asomugha, Raiders, Rumors | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Just one year after making history by signing Nnamdi Asomugha to a record deal, Al Davis is attempting to make his best player history. At least that is what Adam Schefter has gone on the record with. Raiders been shopping much of their roster, including CB Nnamdi Asomugha. But his contract makes him untradeable. Asomugha’s mega contract calls for him to be paid either the franchise number for quarterbacks or $16.875 million, whichever is higher. While Nnamdi is well worth his price tag, it is hard to imagine which teams would actually be willing to take him on the payroll. [...]

LaDainian Tomlinson gets the axe

AUTHOR: | IN: News, NFL | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

LaDainian Tomlinson, public enemy #1 of the Oakland Raiders, was given his outright release today by the San Diego Chargers. Not that the move comes as much of a surprise. L.T.’s production was on a steady decline as his body began to show the wear and tear of nearly a decade of NFL service. In 18 career games against the Raiders, Tomlinson rushed for 2,017 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. More importantly, the Chargers won 14 of those 18 contests including an ongoing streak of 13 consecutive over the Silver and Black. By comparison, the Denver Broncos are second on [...]

Ice Cube or Killroy: Better Raider Nation Fight Song?

By now you’ve certainly heard Cube’s Raider Nation song. What with it being officially endorsed by the Oakland Raiders and proudly played on Sundays at the Coliseum. But have you heard the Killroy offering? Just a little something to keep those Silver and Black juices flowing in February. Clancy Pendergast abandons ship

AUTHOR: | IN: Coaching Staff, News, Raiders | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

After spending roughly one week on the Al Davis payroll, Clancy Pendergast has done an about-face and accepted the recently vacated defensive coordinator position at Cal Berkeley. Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post cites a league source in reporting the story. For Clancy, this marks his fourth job in less than two years and his second in the Bay Area alone in one week’s time. While the cynics will cite Clancy’s assessment of the state of the Oakland Raiders for his quick departure, I’d like to offer a different theory. To me, this reeks of Al Davis and his [...]
