LaDainian Tomlinson, public enemy #1 of the Oakland Raiders, was given his outright release today by the San Diego Chargers. Not that the move comes as much of a surprise. L.T.’s production was on a steady decline as his body began to show the wear and tear of nearly a decade of NFL service.
In 18 career games against the Raiders, Tomlinson rushed for 2,017 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. More importantly, the Chargers won 14 of those 18 contests including an ongoing streak of 13 consecutive over the Silver and Black. By comparison, the Denver Broncos are second on his career list with a total of 1,485 yards rushing and 9 wins in 18 games.
In 2005, Tomlinson embarrassed the Raiders in the Oakland Coliseum with a three TD performance in which he ran for a score, caught one and for good measure threw one as well.
Safe to say that Raider Nation is glad to see Tomlinson depart the AFC West.
Unfortunately for all those bandwagon fans in San Diego, they’ll have to find someone else to blame when their team chokes in the playoffs again next season.
