From the AP: The Oakland Raiders have agreed to contracts with third-round offensive lineman Jared Veldheer and fourth-rounder Bruce Campbell. The deals announced Friday are the first the team has reached with this year’s draft class. Veldheer was drafted 69th overall out of Division II Hillsdale College in Michigan. He has played at tackle and center in offseason workouts. Campbell was picked 106th overall out of Maryland. He has been playing guard since joining the team. Oakland still has seven other draft picks to sign, including first-rounder Rolando McClain. The Raiders have also released linebacker and special teams standout Isaiah [...]
Friday’s Raider Ramblings
Here are my random Raider thoughts for Friday. Enjoy the Ramblings everyone. – You know what the worst part about JaMarcus Russell being arrested was for me? Every single Raiders site and forum I went to, all people wanted to do is talk about this monumental bust. Let’s move on everyone. The Raiders actually have hope going into a season for the first time in quite a while. I could really care less about Russell at this point. He was a terrible pick by the Raiders and will probably never play in the NFL again. End of story. My focus [...]
Yahoo! Sports’ Oakland Raiders Fantasy Breakdown
Andy Behrens of Yahoo! Sports is breaking down each team for the upcoming fantasy football season. Recently, Behrens gave his thoughts on the Raiders, a team considered by most experts to lack top-flight fantasy options. Here is what Behrens had to say about Oakland’s wide receiver position: The Raiders haven’t delivered a 1,000-yard wideout (or even a 750-yard wideout) since Randy Moss in 2005, but we saw flashes of playmaking ability from both Murphy and Chaz Schilens last year. Those two combined for three scores in the fourth quarter of that surreal Week 13 win against Pittsburgh. Murphy impressed in [...]
Tyvon Branch will make the Pro Bowl
Remember these words, share this on Facebook, retweet it or just go ahead and add JBB to your favorites. By the end of the 2010 NFL season the Oakland Raiders will have two members of their secondary at the Pro Bowl. It goes without saying that Nnamdi Asomugha will be representing the Silver and Black in Hawaii again this year. As pro football’s premier cornerback (sorry Darelle but you need three proven years of shutdown status to get into this convo) Asomugha has finally received the attention he deserves for his brilliantly consistent play. However, if Nnamdi takes a peek [...]
Three Raiders to Keep an Eye On During Training Camp
With training camp right around the corner (Thank God!), it’s time to take a look at the players to keep an eye on this summer and during the preseason. There are a lot of interesting new additions to the Oakland roster that bear watching but here are the three players I am most intrigued by heading into training camp: Walter McFadden, CB -I wrote in a previous blog how excited I was when the Raiders selected McFadden. I saw him play a lot during his career at Auburn and in my opinion, McFadden was one of the sleepers in this [...]
JaMarcus Russell has officially hit Ryan Leaf status
For JaMarcus Russell, becoming an NFL bust was not a problem. His innate ability to be lazy, lethargic and uncommitted appeared to come with ease. The kid was a natural, stealing millions from Al Davis and rubbing it in the collective face of Raider Nation. Come to find out, Russell was anything but a natural. He was cheating all along. In lieu of his arrest, the world has discovered that Russell’s lethargy addiction was not a result of his dedication to nothingness. Instead, JaMarcus was using performance detracting drugs all along. Cam Inman cites an ESPN report on the effects [...]
Here at Fansided, the writers of each blog voted to come up with an All-Conference team. However, the writers of the AFC West couldn’t agree on three positions. We are now turning it over to you, the fans, to break the tie. Here are the positions where we couldn’t agree on a winner: Kicker: Sebastian Janokowski (Raiders), Nate Kaeding (Chargers) Nose Tackle: Tommy Kelly (Raiders), Cam Thomas (Chargers) Right Guard: Ryan Lilja (Chiefs), Chris Kuper (Broncos) As you can see there are two Raiders, Tommy Kelly and Sebastian Janokowski, that are still in the running. I was able to get [...]
Former Raider JaMarcus Russell Arrested
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was arrested Monday for possession of a controlled substance. Schefter wrote on his Twitter page that according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Russell was found with codeine syrup, an illegal drug combining Jolly Ranchers and codeine. Earlier this week, renowned quarterback coach Tom Martinez blamed the Raiders for Russell’s failures in the NFL. Maybe now people will realize that what happened to Russell is the result of only one person: JaMarcus Russell.
It’s Time for the Hall to Call for Ray Guy
In just over a month another class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. While this class in particular has some of the best players to ever put on a helmet (Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith) there is still one glaring omission: Ray Guy. First let me say that when it comes to this topic I’m not speaking as a Raiders supporter, I’m speaking as a fan of pro football. In my opinion, the fact that Ray Guy still doesn’t have a bust in Canton is one of the biggest travesties in all of sports. I honestly thought that after [...]
