Raiders Sign DT Jay Alford
According to Mike Florio, the Raiders have signed defensive tackle Jay Alford. While the transaction is, as of yet, nowhere to be found on the Raiders’ official website , it is being reported by various media outlets including a post on Bay Area beat writer Jerry McDonald’s blog. Alford, a former third round pick from Penn State, was recently released from the New York Giants where he infamously sacked Tom Brady to secure a Super Bowl victory. Most of the early speculation is that Mike Waufle, who was Alford’s position coach in NY, put in the good word to get his former [...]
State of the Roster: Sorting Out the Raiders Defense
As the last few days have shown, sorting out the Raiders’ roster will be an exercise in patience this season. Apparently so too is the depth chart. In a matter of days Quentin Groves went from third string to emerging starter at weakside linebacker thanks to Trevor Scott returning to his original position of defensive end. With the daunting task of stopping the NFL’s top rusher from a year ago looming, the Raiders are making moves to shore up the front seven.
Predicting the Raiders 53 Man Roster
Now that the dust has settled on the preseason, it’s time to get down to the business at hand. Namely, it’s time to take a wild stab and predicting what the roster will look like come Saturday when the NFL mandated roster trim will be completed. Last year it was the release of Jeff Garcia that was the shock of the Raiders’ final cut down. Well…shocking to some, not to this blogger. This year, there are position battles everywhere and no roster spot is safe. As always, injuries will factor in on the decisions Tom Cable and company are pitted [...]
Last Time Wearing Silver and Black?
Tonight marks the end of the preseason as the Raiders welcome the Seahawks to the East Bay. Tonight will also be the final time that 22 players will suit up for the Oakland Raiders. Sure, some will return later this year as injury replacements. Others, like Chris “Baby Howie” Cooper might return again one day down the road. But for many, this will be the final time they’ll ever put on the Silver and Black. Michael Huff has warned the young players, but there are plenty of veterans that aren’t safe either. Here are five veteran players that be could [...]
Depending on whom you believe, the Raiders have either had discussions with the Arizona Cardinals about acquiring underachiever Matt Leinart or they’re simply not in on the Leinart fire sale at all. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter lists the Raiders among the teams interested in the services of the former USC golden boy. Meanwhile, MMA aficionado turned NFL scoop king Jay Glazer denies the Raiders have had any talks with the Cardinals. Being that Glazer is the original source for the story since he has a working relationship with Leinart, I’m a little more inclined to lean towards Fox Sports on this [...]
