Raiders Have Much More to Play For Than Pride
It was supposed to the AFC West Super Bowl. Four weeks ago the Raiders-Chiefs finale was shaping up to be a rivalry for all the marbles. This was supposed to be a winner-take-all duel with more than bragging rights at stake. Well, it is still a duel with bragging rights on the line. Too bad for the Raiders the Chiefs have already claimed the crown and the playoff birth that comes with it. Still, there is much more to play for than pride in Arrowhead on Sunday. Tom Cable has proven himself to be the best coach in the East [...]
Raiders Scrooged Themselves
The Oakland Raiders old nemesis keeps showing it’s head almost every weekend. Not the Broncos. Not the Chargers. It’s that little yellow handkerchief that seems to find its way from a polyester back pocket of the zebras to the Coliseum turf too many times during a game. The Raider will never be a championship style team until the every game mistakes are alleviated. The main offender is … well… everyone. The ones that are the most obvious are the ones from the secondary which turn 3rd and 20 to first down. (Thank you Stanford Routt, Michael Huff, and Chris Johnson) [...]
The NFL released the 2011 Pro Bowl rosters today and three Raiders have been selected to represent the AFC. Nnamdi Asomugha, Richard Seymour and Shane Lechler are all headed to Hawaii with Aso and Shane getting the starting nod. It’s refreshing that both Nnamdi and Shane are finally getting their due as it’s to the point where you can write both of their names in before the season even starts. Seymour has had a good year but you get the feeling he was selected on name more so than performance. Congrats to the aforementioned men who will represent the Silver and [...]
Jacoby Ford: Record Setting Rookie
It has been quite a year for Jacoby Ford. When the Raiders traded away Kirk Morrison and used the pick acquired to draft the receiver from Clemson most assumed it was another one of Al’s 40-yard specials. Yes, Ford did happen to run the fastest 40 at the combine assuring he was all over the Davis radar. But Ford has proven there is much more to his game than track speed. This guy is a straight up playmaker who could have a Pro Bowl invite coming his way in his first lap around the NFL. On Sunday, Ford took the [...]
Raiders Continue to Be Own Worst Enemy
After spending seven years in hell the Oakland Raiders entered Sunday’s contest with a chance to enter football heaven. Too bad for the Silver and Black their playoff destiny was out of their own control. Even worse is that they have themselves to blame for relinquishing that control. This has been a year of great growth for Tom Cable and his players. A franchise that has been the laughing stock of the football world played with renewed pride and passion. Still, if anyone in the organization is looking to assign blame for coming up short in the playoff push they [...]
Playoff Hopeless Raiders Cower to Colts
Before the game started the Raiders knew their playoff chances were done. So, to honor the occasion they went out and got abused by the Indianapolis Colts. Make no mistake; this was not a dominant performance by Peyton Manning and Co. This was a good enough performance. A showing that displayed just how much further Oakland has to go until they’re true contenders. A sure sign of bad things to come, Jacoby Ford took the opening kick to the house. Before this season, no Raider had ever returned the opening kick for a touchdown. It’s happened twice this year and [...]
Merry Christmas, Raider Nation!
Raiders Look to Ruin Christmas for the Colts
Much like Grandma’s eggnog after New Year’s, the Raiders’ playoff hopes have all but spoiled. Therefore there is only one thing left to do. Pay it forward by giving the Indianapolis Colts a lump of coal for Christmas. In order for Oakland to have any chance at all of playing in the postseason they’ve got to beat Indy on Sunday and the Chiefs next week. That alone is not enough as they’ll need plenty of help along the way too. The scenarios are many and the chances are slim. During a time of year when it is easy to be [...]
Heart of a Raider!
(photo by yardbarker.com) The Oakland Raiders are all in! They have bought into what Tom Cable is selling and are drinking Cable Kool-Aid! Emotions ran high last week during the Raiders rampage over the Broncos. There were scrums a plenty as the Raiders and Broncos mixed it up several times after the plays were over. This demonstrates to me as a fan that the Raiders are playing like a team and protecting each other like a family. The Raiders and Broncos don’t play well together but the extra curricular activities in the last few games have reveal to me [...]
Battle at the OA”K” Corral
From overwhelming the Broncos, to wrangling Colts, the Raiders must play the roll of range cowboy this weekend. The Colts look to the infamous arm and play calling on Peyton Manning. Manning is usually the “Billy the Kid” of the NFL, executing defenses with no disregard. Lately, Peyton has looked like “Billy the Generous”, liberally delivering balls to the multitudes of defenders. The Colts have been a struggling team this season with team injuries and Peyton playing like Eli. The legendary gun slinger has been struggling this season with erratic accuracy and no one behind him who wants to tote [...]
