It was supposed to the AFC West Super Bowl. Four weeks ago the Raiders-Chiefs finale was shaping up to be a rivalry for all the marbles. This was supposed to be a winner-take-all duel with more than bragging rights at stake. Well, it is still a duel with bragging rights on the line. The Oakland Raiders old nemesis keeps showing it’s head almost every weekend. Not the Broncos. Not the Chargers. It’s that little yellow handkerchief that seems to find its way from a polyester back pocket of the zebras to the Coliseum turf too many times during a game. The Raider will never be a championship style team until the every game mistakes are alleviated. The main offender is … well… everyone. The NFL released the 2011 Pro Bowl rosters today and three Raiders have been selected to represent the AFC. Nnamdi Asomugha, Richard Seymour and Shane Lechler are all headed to Hawaii with Aso and Shane getting the starting nod. It’s refreshing that both Nnamdi and Shane are finally getting their due as it’s to the point where you can write both of their names in before the season even starts. It has been quite a year for Jacoby Ford. When the Raiders traded away Kirk Morrison and used the pick acquired to draft the receiver from Clemson most assumed it was another one of Al’s 40-yard specials. After spending seven years in hell the Oakland Raiders entered Sunday’s contest with a chance to enter football heaven. Too bad for the Silver and Black their playoff destiny was out of their own control. Even worse is that they have themselves to blame for relinquishing that control. Before the game started the Raiders knew their playoff chances were done. So, to honor the occasion they went out and got abused by the Indianapolis Colts. Make no mistake; this was not a dominant performance by Peyton Manning and Co. This was a good enough performance. Much like Grandma’s eggnog after New Year’s, the Raiders’ playoff hopes have all but spoiled. Therefore there is only one thing left to do. From overwhelming the Broncos, to wrangling Colts, the Raiders must play the roll of range cowboy this weekend. The Colts look to the infamous arm and play calling on Peyton Manning. Manning is usually the “Billy the Kid” of the NFL, executing defenses with no disregard.
