We haven’t said much about Rolando McClain here on JBB this season. Not that the rookie hasn’t impressed. He’s just been quietly steady with occasional up and down moments. Last week the rookie nabbed his first career pick and it came in dramatic fashion, stopping the Dolphins with a goal line grab.
The eighth pick in the draft has received high praise from teammates and coaches for his maturity. As it turns out his body may be more mature than his 21 years on this planet belie.
Jerry McDonald reports that McClain has missed the last two days of practice due to arthritis in his left foot. Not the type of thing you’d expect from a young man that has no previous history of the condition.
As it stands, Tom Cable has said Rolando will be a game time decision come Sunday. If he can’t go then expect Ricky Brown to step in and fill the void in the middle as yet another Raider joins the corps of the walking wounded.
Hopefully this isn’t going to a lingering issue going forward. McClain is expected to anchor this defense for the foreseeable future. Plus there is a date in Jacksonville in two weeks time where Rolando will get to prove why the Raiders shipped off Kirk Morrison to the Jaguars.
