JaMarcus Russell May Have Burned his Final Bridge

After this post I’m thinking of instating a ban on all JaMarcus Russell conversation on JBB. Not only is he no longer a Raider chances are he’ll never even sniff the NFL again. I want to roll out the usual routine of cracking jokes at his expense but I just can’t any longer. Russell’s downward spiral is now officially too tragic to be considered comedy.

According to Yahoo! Russell’s “life coach” has asked the former top pick to take his things and leave. John Lucas knows a thing or too about adversity. The former hoops star whose career was marred by substance abuse was able to turn his life around to the point where he’s mentored other athletes with similar issues.

That Lucas would give up on Russell says a lot.

What is most frightening of all is that this might not be rock bottom for the aloof JaMarcus. Every wakeup call has gone unheeded by the Alabama native as he’s been given chance after chance due to his inherit natural ability.

If nothing else you’d think JaMarcus might actually be a cautionary tale but I’m afraid even that is a stretch. Most just consider Russell a sad case of complacency and indifference.

Russell’s tragic tale isn’t even one that merits any sort of empathy. He doesn’t have anyone to blame but himself for his state. Sure, there clearly have been far too many yes men surrounding him over the years but that hardly warrants any sympathy. I can’t even honestly say that I wish him well in the future.

At this point all I can say is that this will be the last time you’ll see his name appear on this blog.
