Ex-Girlfriend

AUTHOR: | IN: Commentary, News, NFL, NFL Lockout, Raiders, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I have an ex-girlfriend called the NFL. Every time I think of what she is doing to me my stomach turns. I’ve been dedicated to her for countless years. Now I can’t even watch her and her many, I mean MANY Top 100 lists on her “Network”. It’s like strolling down memory lane in old shoe box in my closet. I have many of the thing we bought when we were in love; the jerseys, cards, golf club head covers, many knickknacks. All of these are a reminder of the blind love I was in. Lately, I find myself saying, [...]

Raiders are Better Off Having Passed on Michael Crabtree

AUTHOR: | IN: Commentary | COMMENTS: None Yet

Darrius Heyward-Bey looks highly unlikely to ever live up to his draft status. Entering the third year of his less than impressive pro career DHB has been outperformed by most every receiver taken after him in the ’09 draft including teammate Louis Murphy who didn’t hear his named called until the 4th round. Despite all that the Raiders are still in a better place for having passed on Michael Crabtree. On draft day the collective football world laughed when Hey-Bey came off the board before Crabtree. In actuality the real crime is that DHB and Crabtree were picked ahead of [...]

Raiders Have No Reason to take the Plaxico Plunge

AUTHOR: | IN: Commentary | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Before he even served the first day of his 20-month sentence Plaxico Burress was rumored to become a Raider upon his release. Nothing really shocking there. About the only thing less imaginative than linking knuckleheads to Oakland is Rebecca Black’s song writing. Every year there is some locker room cancer looking for a new gig and without fail the Silver and Black suddenly have a horse in a race they never even entered. It’s easy to understand where the notions come from. Al Davis built the reputation of his franchise on the backs of misfits and knuckleheads. Of course that [...]

Alex Smith a Raider?

AUTHOR: | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

We’re at that point where rumors that never had any legs are up for legitimate discussion. That’s not so unusual this time of year. Lockout or not the NFL news cycle isn’t in high gear in June. But given the current languishing labor issues we’re stuck talking about meaningless tidbits like Alex Smith discussing rumors of the Raiders having interest in his services. Smith did an interview with Tim Kawakami where the Raider rumors were among the topics. Jerry McDonald quickly dispels the notion that Oakland ever had an interest in Smith citing a Raiders scout that all but summed [...]

June Gloom: Who Needs the NFL?

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL Lockout | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The longer this lockout lasts the less I care about professional football. Yeah…I said it. My love for the Oakland Raiders only goes so far. Don’t get it twisted. Trying to imagine Sundays in the fall without the Silver and Black is a nightmare. But most all nightmares are only temporary. Just as I’ve long since forgotten about the imagined monster under my childhood bed I’ll soon get over the fact that I won’t be able to yell at Mario Henderson on Sundays. I love football but I don’t need it to live. Wake me up when Roger Goodell is [...]
