It took almost a full week but we’ve finally got some Zach Miller news to discuss. Until today all had been eerily quiet on the Miller front. Then a report came out stating Miller was in Seattle having a chat with the Seahawks. Recently Jerry McDonald confirmed that Miller is, in fact, in Seattle today.
This news wouldn’t come as such a shock if the initial reports this morning made it seem as if it was a done deal that Miller would be back in Silver and Black.
Some speculate that Miller is simply looking to leverage a little more coin out of Al Davis. That would seem to be a mistake however. The Miller market has been anything but bountiful.
NFL teams are either more consumed with other priorities or just don’t see much reason to pursue Miller’s services.
Either way Miller doesn’t have nearly the leverage Nnamdi Asomughua did. Not that anybody ever thought Miller was going to break the bank in Nnamdi fashion. Still you had to assume there would be plenty of suitors out there for Zach given the way he’s produced with no consistent quarterback play or offensive structure in Oakland over the non-Hue Jackson years.
Maybe this is all a formality. Perhaps Miller just missed Tom Cable. Whatever the case it doesn’t look like Miller returning to Oakland is the slam dunk most though it would be.
