Okay Nation, here is a little bio action on the Raiders latest free agent pick up, Lito Sheppard. Lito was drafted in the first round by the Eagles in 2002. In 2004, Lito had 5 picks including two that went for six points! He made his very first Pro Bowl in 2004. In 2005, Lito was attacked by the injury bug and was out six games. He still managed to get three picks in that season. In 2006, Lito made history returning two career picks for over 100+ yards (both against the Cowboys!). Lito also played for the Jets and most recently the Vikings. He currently was working out for the Giants when the Raiders picked him up on August 26th.
Lito’s carrier looks like this; 19 career picks (3 for touch downs), 3 forced fumbles and 2 sacks. (Only two picks since 2008.) Last year he started only two games for the Vikings.
Lito’s best years are definitely behind him but I hope his experience and knowledge helps our young DB’s acclimate to the NFL. Lito has been a winner his whole football career beginning in high school, college and also the pros. Injuries have hindered his career but he definitely has a nose for the ball. Who knows, maybe Al Davis will play him at safety because of Hiram’s injury. (But then again, Stevie Brown and Mike Mitchell are starving for playing time.) All in all, a good pick up for the Raiders. It will help with our depth and veteran leadership this season.
