The only real surprise in Sebastian Janikowski’s 63-yard bomb last night in Denver is that it’s taken him this long to enter the NFL record book. After his unbelievable 61-yarder off the frozen tundra of Cleveland, there was no doubt Seabass could go down as the greatest kicker from 50+ in football history.
What makes Jano’s jewel in the Mile High City stand out is that he downplayed how well he stuck the ball.
“To be honest, I didn’t hit it that good. It barely got over the bar.”
With that in mind it’s a no-brainer that Janikowski could easily stand alone in the record book one of these days. After all, dude did hit a one from 70-yards in warm ups prior to last night’s primetime presentation.
Moments such as these are quickly taking the bite out of all the jokes made at the expense of Al Davis when he drafted Jano in the first round. Those three points proved vital in Oakland’s 23-20 win over Denver. However it’s still pretty laughable to think Lane Kiffin lined him up for a 76-yard attempt. Even Seabass had to chuckle at that attempt.
