After all of the speculation, misdirection and indecision Terrelle Pryor will finally get some face time with the NFL to appeal the ridiculous 5-game ban handed down by Roger Goodell. According to Jason La Canfora, Pryor is scheduled to make his case today.
You already know the official JBB take on this felonious fiasco Goodell and his goons have created. If not you can read it here. If you want the CliffsNotes version then here it goes.
The long and the short of it is the league took the wrong approach in this mess. By dragging their feet while ruling on Pryor’s eligibility for the supplemental draft – going as far as postponing the draft – then coming down with an out-of-nowhere 5-game suspension it illustrates exactly where the league’s allegiances truly lie. Goodell is out to save face with his free-of-charge farm system – the NCAA.
Pryor’s appeal is necessary not just for his own purposes but for those that come after him. The league is walking a very contentious line by commuting college suspensions to the pros. Ultimately a clear line must be drawn.
No matter the outcome of today’s hearing, this is a topic which must be brought into plain sight. The corruption of college football cannot bleed into the hypocrisy of the NFL. They are two independent entities that have no business being in bed together. If Pryor’s collegiate sins were such that he should be suspended by the NFL then why was he allowed to enter the draft in the first place?
Roger Goodell, you got some serious explaining to do.
