We’re officially at that point in the season when everyone in the NFL is hurt. Chances are even Hue Jackson is icing every night after work. That being said today’s injury report for the Raiders was eye-opening.
Vittorio Tarfur sums up the entire list with their current status and practice participation noted.
J Ford, hamstring, limited (in practice)
L Murphy, groin, Did Not Participate
D McFadden, groin, full (participant)
M Reese, ankle, DNP
J Campbell, heel, limited
R Brown, concussion, DNP
Q Groves, quad contusion, full
M Shaughnessy, shoulder DNP
J Boyd, knee, full
C Chekwa, hamstring, limited
M Giardano , shoulder, full
M Huff, concussion, ankle, body, everything, limited
C Johnson, hamstring, DNP
M Mitchell, knee, limited
D Van Dyke, knee, full
Coach Jackson called this report “one for the ages”. With all the walking wounded in the defensive secondary it might be cause for serious concern as Tom Brady and Wes Welker are slated to play in the East Bay this weekend.
The good news is that both Jacoby Ford and Mike Mitchell returned to practice. Ford hasn’t played since the season opener in Denver. Mitchell just hasn’t played at all this year.
Aside from the injured DBs another alarming announcement is the absence of Matt Shaughnessy from practice. Oakland is going to need all hands on deck on defense. Getting pressure on Brady is the primary objective to slow the Patriots roll.
We’ve still got a couple more days until any of these injuries reveal their true nature. Still, you’d like to see this team get as much prep as possible for the task that awaits Sunday.
