This was a weekend filled with emotions for every member of Raider Nation. The sudden loss of Al Davis made us all sad in many ways. We all reflected on our devotion to the silver and black with every avenue leading directly back to Davis. We all grieved in our own ways. Then, on Sunday morning, we did what Al Davis would have wanted us to do.
We got behind our team and watched as they delivered one of the most inspired performances you’ll ever see in sports.
Sunday’s dramatic win over the Houston Texans was far from a portrait of perfection. But that is what made the win so great. It wasn’t about winning pretty or doing everything perfectly. That win was bout dedication, commitment, perseverance and pride. All the principles Mr. Davis has instilled in this franchise.
As soon as Michael Huff grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat the emotions came out for everyone. I jumped for joy then immediately sank back into my seat once I saw Hue Jackson on the sideline.
As moving as the entire game was, nothing compared to the speech Coach Jackson delivered in the locker room after the game. Perhaps the best current example of the vision Mr. Davis had for this team was on display Sunday. Coach Jackson’s promotion was among the more recent controversial decisions made by Davis. But after seeing the way the Raiders have responded to Coach Jackson and then hearing his heart felt speech there is no doubt that Mr. Davis was right…again.
