Take this as either a ringing endorsement of newly acquired Aaron Curry on an indictment on Quentin Groves. Curry has barely been a Raider for 24 hours. He just passed his physical yesterday and today, after his first practice, Curry learned he’d be starting on Sunday. Mind you this isn’t just any Sunday as the Raiders will be paying tribute to Al Davis.
How’s that for a dramatic debut?
Now not only is Curry making his debut as a Raider but he’ll be making his first ever NFL appearance as a weak side linebacker. Yet another indication of just what the coaching staff thinks of Groves and his performance this season.
No telling how quickly Curry will adjust to not only his new defense but his new position also. One thing we do know is that Curry is fired up and has already seen the potential to become a better player in Oakland’s system. When asked what he does best, Curry gave a response that would have made Mr. Davis proud.
Run. The best thing I do is run. Wait for the runner to make a move and run in his direction. That’s my best asset.
While Curry might be new to the Raider family his family isn’t new to the Raiders. About a year ago Curry was reunited with his long lost brother, Eric Barton. Raider Nation will recall Barton as a starting linebacker for the Silver and Black back in the early 2000’s.
