Yeah, the bye week could not have come at a better time for the Raiders. Now how they went into the bye is whole other story. How they come out of it will reveal the true character of this team.
With seemingly everyone except Hue Jackson himself nursing injury – though I’m sure his ego needed some ice after Sunday – it was nice to know tests revealed no “structural damage” on Darren McFadden’s foot.
Once upon a time Run DMC getting injured only meant Michael Bush would be the next in line to run the Raiders to victory. While Bush is still a legit NFL runner, he’s nowhere near the game changer McFadden is – Bush running Chucky out of the NFL back in ’08 notwithstanding.
For McFadden injury has been the bane of his NFL existence. Who knows what could have been had McFadden been healthy and playing at this level from day one. Maybe JaMarcus Russell would still be in the NFL. Perhaps Lane Kiffin would have been leaving Oakland to go straight to USC instead of that brief stop in Tennessee. Most likely none of that would have happened.
The ways things are going is the only way they could have gone.
So this news doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods yet. However if McFadden has finally put the injury bug to bed then he’ll bounce back better than ever. No matter who is playing QB in the East Bay, they won’t find the same type of success without #20 lining up behind them.
