The AFC West is as wild and wide open as it has ever been. That’s exactly why the Raiders are bringing in some hired guns for the playoff run. When Carson Palmer came to the East Bay he encouraged the team to take a look at his former teammate T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Well, that is exactly what Hue Jackson did and today the team added Housh to the roster.
Once upon a time Houshmandzadeh was among the most productive receivers in the league. After inking a lucrative deal with the Seattle Seahawks T.J.’s production pretty much vanished. After one season he was gone and until today had been out of the league.
Both Palmer and Coach Jackson are very familiar with the former Oregon State Beaver. The trio shared a locker room in Cincinnati some years ago. Palmer was also staying sharp during his self-imposed NFL exile by working out with Housh.
For Coach Jackson the move further illustrates both his urgency to win and continues to put pressure on all men currently on the roster. Almost no job is safe these days. Though the team has yet to announce who will give way for Houshmandzadeh it is speculated that Louis Murphy or Chaz Schilens could be in danger of getting a pink slip.
How effective Housh will be on the field remains to be seen. However his veteran presence will be a valuable asset to the young receivers the Raiders boast of.
