Around Raider Nation Charger week is always a big deal. No matter the stakes, bragging rights are always a reason to get up for those San Diego Dolts. The latest edition is one that comes on a shortened week and just so happens to be as big a matchup as either team has had this season.
In keeping with our off the wall way of breaking down the opponent, JBB continues the Out of Bounds series by tossing out 5 Quirky Questions at Bolt Beat editor Ernie Padaon.
Don’t hold Ernie’s taste in football teams against him. He’s a good dude. He’s also very knowledgeable when it comes to the Chargers as evident by the fantastic site he runs.
Here are our 5 Out of Bounds Questions to get you a little extra insight into Thursday’s rival.
Q: If the first half of San Diego’s season was a novel which book would it resemble and why?
A: You are asking way too much of me, can I go straight to coloring books or children’s books? Maybe I can pick one of my favorite episodes of Spongebob Squarepants for this. Honestly, whatever the book would be, it would be an unfinished novel. We have yet to put a whole ballgame together. We usually just choose to show up for a half of the game and if we are lucky 3 quarters. It often ends up with a turnover of some sort and bad things.
Q: Carson Palmer and Philip Rivers combine for 6 picks or Antoine Cason and Michael Huff get burned for a combined 4 TDs: Which is more likely to happen Thursday?
A: This is an easy one. Carson Palmer averages an interception a quarter and Philip Rivers leads the league in interceptions. 6 is a big number, but if anyone can do it, I have faith in both of them to get it done. Antoine Cason and Michael Huff will only combine to give up 3 TDs.
Q: Bigger surprise out of San Diego: Philip Rivers’ struggles or Norv Turner still being employed?
A: Philip’s struggles will be the biggest surprise of the season. He has always been our rock that we could rely on to be solid, but this year he has struggled to find players wearing the same jersey as him. If he were playing at the level we had expected, we would have at least a 2 game lead in the division already.
Norv still having a job is the same old thing that we have come to know here. We have been asking for him to get fired for years and years and nothing happens. As long as he is here we will continue our downhill ride.
Q: If Larry English and Aaron Curry were locked in a steel cage with only a chair and a pair of boxing gloves who makes it out alive?
A: I am surprised you even know who Larry English is. We don’t even get to see the guy on the field since he hangs out on the IR list every year. I am pretty sure that Larry English would somehow get injured before the bout and wouldn’t be able to be put in the situation.
And finally…the most important question of all…
Q: Mike Tolbert: Start or Sit?
A: I would go in another direction if you had better runningbacks. Ryan Mathews should be back for this game and he gets the bulk of the carries. Tolbert is the goal line back, but since Antonio Gates has come back we have looked to the air to get the score in the red zone.
