There are injuries-a-plenty around Oakland these days and I’m not talking about all the dustups going on with the Occupy Oakland happenings. Nope, we’re talking about the Raiders here.
All week long it has been like following the stock market to get a beat on who is going to play Sunday. Both Darren McFadden and Jacoby Ford were expected not to play so both being ruled out was no more shocking than Demi Moore’s divorce.
However keeping tabs on Richard Seymour’s health has been difficult. Despite Seymour not practicing at all this week it is revealing that even Hue Jackson was surprised by Seymour’s latest setback.
“I was surprised he wasn’t able to go today, but that’s part of it. Again, we’re going to make sure we’re going to caution on the side of health for this football team.”
Perhaps Coach Jackson is just slow playing his hand when it comes to revealing the true nature of his team’s injuries. We’ve seen him use this tactic often in his tenure as head coach. What is disconcerting is that now Seymour will likely join Michael Huff as another game time decision.
It goes without saying that Seymour is key to Oakland’s prospects of slowing Adrian Peterson. If the Raiders get run over by Peterson then there is a good chance of the Denver Tebows falling into a first place tie.
Of course if Seymour can’t give maximum effort then there is really no point in putting him on the field. Every game is important from here out so the Raiders are going to have to pick and choose which risks they’re willing to take. I’m guessing that going against Peterson without Seymour is a huge gamble. Oakland’s run defense has been highly inconsistent so they’re going to need all hands on deck this Sunday.
