Hard to believe that one week after being carted off the field in Minnesota and only days after wearing a neck brace that Darrius Heyward-Bey could be starting Sunday. What is even more unbelievable is how valuable DHB has become to the Raiders. With all the injuries in the receiving corps Heyward-Bey’s presence is sorely needed Sunday.
DHB is back in practice today, sporting a helmet and participating in drills. While the neck brace was more precautionary than anything else it is pretty remarkable that Heyward-Bey has come along this quickly in one week.
Seeing DHB lying on the field in Minnesota last week was a frightening reminder of dangerous life in the NFL can be. I’m sure the Heyward-Bey household was thankful for Darrius being able to enjoy his turkey pain-free yesterday.
From a football standpoint the Raiders will need all hands on deck now that the playoff push is in full swing.
As great as it will be to see DHB Sunday – if he is in fact good to go – it is even better to know he’s in good health. Now if only some of that bounce back Hey-Bey has would rub off on Darren McFadden.
