Earlier today I said Rolando McClain and the Raiders had some explaining to do. Turns out it is just McClain who has to face the music.
We’ve learned McClain was in his native Alabama to attend his grandfather’s funeral yesterday. That would explain why the Raiders allowed McClain to skip treatment of his ankle in favor of being there for his family. However now McClain has to explain why he’s been arrested and was held on a $2,000 bond.
According to the Decatur Police Department in Alabama, McClain is being charged with discharging a firearm within city limits, third degree assault, menacing and reckless endangerment. All of the charges stem from an altercation that occurred last night.
A statement from a man injured in the incident claims McClain assaulted him before aiming a pistol at his head only to discharge it away from the man’s head within the vicinity of his ear.
Who knows what happened to cause the situation. Better yet, who cares?
McClain has got to see the big picture. He has the opportunity of a lifetime playing professional football in Oakland. No matter the particulars Rolando has got to know a career in football is short lived.
I’m not saying McClain has no right to defend himself. I’m simply saying that pulling a gun on anyone should be a life or death, last resort type of deal.
Drawing down on an individual as a scare tactic is a punk move. Plain and simple. Oh…it is also illegal.
Hue Jackson expressed his confidence in McClain’s situation being resolved. While that is great for McClain’s freedom it means nothing when the other authority – Roger Goodell – is the one that determines his fate on the football field.
