Hue Jackson never questioned Rolando McClain’s guilt or innocence after the linebacker’s arrest in Alabama this week. Instead Jackson openly expressed his disappointment in McClain’s decision making that led to the arrest. Just how disappointed is Jackson?
After speaking to McClain yesterday Jackson is apparently so disappointed in Rolando that he’s rumored to be considering allowing McClain to play today in Miami. At least that is what PFT is reporting after confirming the rumor with one of their many “sources”.
For Jackson this is yet another tough call he’s had to make as a first year head coach. For McClain this could be viewed as validation that the allegations don’t hold much water. For people such as myself this would be a mixed bag. On the one hand I’m fully aware of how vital McClain is to both the defense and the team’s playoff hops as a whole. On the other hand I feel by allowing McClain to play it sends the wrong message.
Perhaps Coach Jackson felt he heard more than enough remorse from McClain and has sufficiently been convinced that his young defender will be cleared on all charges. That is just fine. However McClain, as a player in a position of leadership, should be held to a much higher standard. Forget the charges. He’s got too much responsibility to be getting into bad situations during a crucial time in the season.
No matter the case we still don’t even have a definite confirmation one way or the other on McClain’s status for today. Could be gamesmanship on the part of Jackson or it could be a moment of true indecision. Either way we’re just going to have to tune in in order to find out.
