The Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions have a lot in common. When you think about it the cities of Detroit and Oakland have a lot in common. Both franchises enter Sunday’s game fighting for a piece of the playoffs. Both cities are old school, blue color places. Both teams are experiencing recent success after past failures. And both areas can lay claim to some of the most iconic imagery and innovation in all of Americana.
Over at SideLion Report Zac Snyder has been grinding for the D like Jim Schwartz. Zac took the Lions blogosphere by storm and now runs the premier site on the net for Motown’s football squad.
In keeping with our theme, both teams come into the game with more questions than answers. Injuries have hit both teams. A fast start to the season has given way to some inconsistent play lately. And…yes…all those yellow flags on the field seem to follow both teams everywhere.
These are the types of things we asked Zac in our weekly series. As he always does, Snyder went hard for his city with the type of effort you’d expect from one of the NFL’s most talked about teams this season.
Q: If Eminem were to write a song about the 2011 Detroit Lions what would it be called and how would the hook go?
A: With the Lions relevant for the first time in what seems like forever and their inability to handle it the right way at times, there have been a lot of opinions flying around about what the Lions should or shouldn’t be doing. The Lions as an organization don’t really care what anyone else has to say. That being the case, I’ll pull out some words Eminem used in Forgot About Dre:
Nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got something to say
But nothin comes out when they move their lips
Just a buncha gibberish
Q: Carson Palmer and Matt Stafford combine for 600 passing yards or the Lions and Raiders combine for 220 penalty yards: Which is more likely to happen Sunday?
A: I’ll say the quarterbacks combine for 600 passing yards. A lot has been made about both teams’ problems with penalties heading into the game so I think both teams will make it a point to keep themselves in check. The Lions secondary is a little beat up and Stafford is always capable of having a big day.
Q: Jim Harbaugh or Jared Allen: Who is more disrespectful to Detroit?
A: Jared Allen. It isn’t new for a professional athlete that has never had the privilege of playing for a Detroit team to rag on the area. The truth is that a lot of players might have one idea of what the area is like coming in and end up falling in love with it.
Q: Who ya got your money on in a no holds barred, drunken bar room brawl: Richard Seymour or Ndamukong Suh?
A: I have to go with my man Suh. He has an amazing ability to flip a switch and get nasty when he wants to. He doesn’t take crap from anyone so you best not even try giving it to him.
And finally…the most important question of all…
Q: Matthew Stafford: Start or Sit?
A: Start; you saw last week’s Raiders game, right? Despite playing just his first full season, Stafford is on pace to break the franchise’s records for completions, passing yards and touchdowns. He’s legit.
