With so much at stake in the season finale on Sunday there is no way Michael Huff is going to be on the sideline watching. He’s going to be right in the middle of the action and his return could not have come at a better time.
Huff has missed the last two weeks but made it very clear that he’ll be on the field Sunday against the San Diego Chumps.
“This is a one-game season. I’m going to go out there and play and give my all. I don’t really worry about if I play this week that I may injure it for the playoffs because, if we don’t win the playoffs might not happen.”
Huff’s best quality is his ability to play as a deep rover in the middle of the field. His speed and ball hawking ability will be vital in defending Cry Baby Philip and his long throws. Safe to say the Raiders could have used Huff’s services against the Detroit Lions. But we can’t get caught looking back. This is all about what’s right in front of us right now.
Right now it’s now or never for Oakland.
Sure, the season has taken many twists and turns yet after it all the Raiders are still in the position they planned on being in. Despite losing control of their playoff fate Hue Jackson’s men still have playoff aspirations. Perhaps not the path they expected to take but even diversions can get you to your destination if you make the right decisions in the process.
Huff’s decision to play could be a case of mind over body. Naturally the medical staff will have to clear him and then Coach Jackson will have the final say so. There is no way of knowing just how effective Huff will be but this is an all hands on deck kind of deal.
Taiwan Jones is also planning on being back in uniform while Jacoby Ford is still mulling over his health.
No word on Darren McFadden but I’m willing bet we know how this week will go.
For many of the current Raiders Sunday might as well be the Super Bowl. Plenty of them grew up knowing the history of the franchise yet have not seen those glory days up close and personal. This season has provided a small taste of that re-commitment to excellence. A win Sunday combined with a playoff birth will officially announce the Silver and Black resurrection.
Of course winning the AFC West would provide the greatest opportunity of all – a home playoff game.
That is a sight guys like Michael Huff have been waiting to witness since the first day they put on that iconic uniform. You get a great sense of the urgency in the Raider locker room by reading Huff’s quotes. Now all that’s left to do is just win, baby!
