This Sunday the San Diego Chargers have nothing to play for except pride. That is exactly why the Oakland Raiders should flatten those Chumps like a Snicker bar in Warren Sapp’s back pocket. When it comes to Norv Turner coached teams pride is nothing more than how you feel when you get your paycheck. There is no pride on the field only smiles at the bank.
How Turner has remained employed as a head coach is a mystery. Well, at least it’s a mystery to Raider Nation who knows all too well how underwhelming Turner is as the head shot caller. Hue Jackson, on the other hand, doesn’t see the same Turner we fans do.
Perhaps just sticking up for one of his fellow coaching brethren, Jackson painted a much different picture of Turner for the San Diego Union Tribune.
I think he’s one of the finest coaches in this league, one of the finest offensive minds. Things don’t go your way. That happens in this deal.
Whatever Jackson’s take the fact of the matter is since he arrived in the East Bay the San Diego dominance of the Silver and Black has come to a halt. Once upon a time the Raiders looked like Tim Tebow trying win a meaningful game when it came to playing the Chargers. Three straight wins over the Dolts has changed the bandwagon tune down in San Diego.
With plenty of rumors swirling that Turner will be fired at the end of the season Oakland has a chance to send Norv into permanent retirement in style. Understand, I’m not saying Norv is done coaching. He’ll likely get an offer to coordinate a struggling offense such as the sputtering group known as the New York Jets. However, Turner’s head coaching days could be all but over.
After the Raiders ripped the hearts from the Chargers earlier this year in that Thursday night primetime demolition it would be fitting to send Turner packing in similar fashion.
If there is one thing all Norv Turner coached teams have in common it is a total lack of respect for their opponents and a belief that talent alone will win.
Every year since Turner has been in San Diego his team opens the season as Super Bowl contenders on paper but plays like Super Bowl pretenders on the field. The talent is real but the heart is always lacking.
On Sunday the Raiders are playing the biggest game this franchise has seen in nearly a decade. Coach Jackson might respect Turner but there is no way he can take any pages from Turner’s book when it comes to preparing his team.
Simply put, the Raiders have everything to play for while the Chargers are already on vacation. If Jackson wants to honor Turner then he’ll get his team to rollover for the Dolts. Now if Jackson is serious about his respect for Norv then he’ll do his fellow coach a favor and get him out of the head coaching business. Some people are built for certain challenges while others are not. Unfortunately for all those bandwagon fans in San Diego their coach was never built for this. It’s up to the Raiders to expose this truth one last time.
