It is very clear that Mark Davis and Reggie McKenzie are out to redefine the Oakland Raiders. Just ask Hue Jackson.
What is very unclear is to what extent they’re willing to go to put their indelible stamps on the franchise.
I mean, Raider Nation wants to know. Are we rebuilding or reloading?
The rumors of Jackson’s firing became a harsh reality. So what to make of the rumblings of Carson Palmer’s potential exit? Are McKenzie and Davis really going to gut this team? Or are they just going to reshape it?
We’ve got way too many questions and the answers seem likely to come in the form of surprising headlines.
With yet another coaching search underway the all too familiar feelings of angst are creeping back into the gut of Raider Nation. We’ve been through this too often lately so McKenzie had better have a master plan in place. Finally the Raiders were taking steps towards respectability and ultimately they’re back to square one.
Now the good news is that there is plenty of talent on this roster. You get the feeling that the right coach could get the Silver and Black back on track much like that team from the other side of the Bay.
The bad news is that another non-winning season will ensure a full reboot.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it until winning results come pouring in. Mark Davis and Reggie McKenzie had better know what they’re doing. Both Tom Cable and Hue Jackson were only one result away from putting the Raiders back into the playoffs. They had their shortcomings as coaches, no doubt about that, but the momentum was real. Despite the heartache I’ll take meaningful football in December over draft speculation in October.
Davis and McKenzie had better know what they’re doing.
