As Dennis Allen works to build his coaching staff there is one name he can cross of his list. Earlier this week Allen met with former Chargers and 49ers defensive coordinator Greg Manusky. Today it is being reported that Manusky his headed to the Indianapolis Colts to help in their rebuilding effort.
PFT states that the Raiders could have interest in former Packers defensive coordinator Ed Donatell while another report states the Raiders have approached the Packers to talk to their cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. for the coordinator gig.
No matter which way the Raiders go there is no doubt the decision will be made by Allen and Allen alone.
Mark Davis is allowing Reggie McKenzie to do his job with no interference and McKenzie, in turn, is doing the same for Allen. Despite the belief that McKenzie would be bringing over plenty of familiar faces from Green Bay that has yet to occur with any of the coaching hires. Allen himself was an outsider to McKenzie but so impressed the Oakland GM that he got the nod as the new head coach of the Raiders.
While the two newest names linked to the open defensive coordinator position have Packer links there is reason to believe this search is just getting underway. The way it’s gone with McKenzie is that he seems to start with familiar faces before opening up his search to all qualified candidates. Either way this will ultimately be decided by Allen, a strange occurrence in Oakland for the head coach to actually pick his own staff.
