The Raiders have already inked one veteran cornerback and they’re in the market for another one. After Ron Bartell joined the silver and black in Reggie McKenzie’s inaugural free agency class the new Oakland G.M. quickly brought Shawntae Spencer across the Bay for a looksee.
There is no word on how Spencer’s visit went. There is, however, a report circulating claiming the Raiders will bring in Saints free agent corner Tracy Porter for a visit in the coming days.
Dennis Allen knows Porter from his days of working with the former Hoosier in New Orleans. Porter’s got a list of injuries that certainly have to be a concern but he’s also got plenty of talent. Though he’s not great in coverage, Porter has some balls skills that have produced some big plays. No play has been more memorable in Porter’s career than his pick six of Peyton Manning that sealed a Super Bowl win for the Saints.
At 25-years-of-age Porter will likely look for more security than the one-year deal Bartell received. However unlike Bartell there is a real chance Porter could return to his former team. He is, after all, a Louisiana native that must enjoy playing in front of family and friends on a yearly basis. So in some sense this could just be a leverage play by Porter’s representation. But that’s all part of the free agency game in pro football.
