Well, that didn’t take long. When the Raiders released Cooper Carlisle last week there was plenty of speculation that he could return in the near future. As it turns out Cooper’s exile didn’t even last as long as Kim Kardashian’s marriage.
Today Carlisle returned to the Raiders, presumably at a discount, having helped the team to get into cap compliance prior to the start of free agency.
The move makes sense as the Raiders will once again be going with a zone blocking scheme of which Carlisle is very familiar. He’s also been dependable and durable despite getting up in NFL years. Carlisle’s return combined with the arrival of Mike Brisiel also implies that Stefen Wisniewski will be making the move to center. That means Samson Satele’s chances of coming back to the Bay are even more unlikely.
Every offseason it seems like there is talk of Carlisle being done and each time he ends up starting on Sundays for the silver and black. Got to give my man props. He’s found a way to remain healthy and productive despite constantly hovering just above the cut line.
