Looks like Reggie McKenzie will have to work his draft magic to find a replacement for Kamerion Wimbley. Manny Lawson, a man that was on Oakland’s free agency radar in recent days, has apparently chosen to stay put in Cincinnati.
In all honesty the Raiders had very little chance of inking Lawson or any other free agents at the moment. McKenzie has openly admitted that the team has less than $4-million in cap space, much of which will go towards signing the draft class and making a few positional additions to the roster.
There were no secrets about what it was going to take to get the Raiders back into financial shape. Unfortunately in professional sports the business aspects can and do have a direct effect on the product placed on the field. It might be a year or two until McKenzie has a team capable of competing at the highest level.
That’s not to say that missing out on Lawson is the end of the world for the silver and black. For all we know there could be a better option to be found in the draft. However there isn’t much more to hope for at this point other than finding hidden gems in the draft.
In Reggie McKenzie we trust.
