Future Hall of Famer

Third is First in Oakland

The NFL’s Draft is upon us. The Raider have no picks in the first two rounds, so the 3rd round is the Raider’s first round. Call me crazy, but I’m glad we don’t have a first round pick. Saying that, could we find first round talent in the third round? We have many mid-round picks in this draft. I have all the confidence  in the world in the Oakland Raiders talent scouts.  They tend to find outstanding talent in late rounds, and with no “red phone” Al Davis calls during the draft, I feel like we are in a great position to grab some future playmakers and roll players on our way to an AFC title.

Some of the late round gems we have found in past drafts are Matt Shaughnessy, Jered Veldheer, Ron, Curry, Michael Bush, Kirk Morrison, Shane Lechler and DeMarcus Van Dyke. Shaughnessy is a starter on any defensive line, when healthy. Veldheer is becoming the Raiders cornerstone to a great future offensive line. Ron Curry, a converted QB, fell to the 7th round, where the Raider scouts saw potential. DVD is young and raw, but has a great upside and has shown flashes of that in 2011. And Lechler, he’s okay, I guess. Ha Ha

I’m very excited for this year’s season. I’m excited to see all the new faces and rookies on the roster. I have a feeling that the Raiders will do innovative things never seen before and generate a new attitude in Oakland. A winning attitude! Good bye to the days of “Building a brainless bully”, and leading the league in yellow handkerchiefs on the field. Raider Reggie has got us going in the right direction. In Reggie we trust!
