Raiders Nearly Capped Out

No real surprise to find the Raiders near the bottom of the barrel in NFL cap space. What is surprising is how little cap room they have left despite all of Reggie McKenzie’s cost cutting moves.

CSN Bay Area via PFT reports that the Raiders are a mere $1.34-million under the cap.

Makes you wonder how the team would have operated at all if Stanford Routt and Kamerion Wimbley were still on the payroll. Better yet, how is McKenzie going to address any needs that may arise should injuries occur during camp?

What remains unknown is how much space Tyvon Branch’s new contract has created. Depending on how the deal is structured the Raiders could open up enough cash to pursue remaining free agents like Cedric Benson. Either way this team is still another year away from being in a much better place as far as team salary goes.
