Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all. Apparently that’s the legal advice Darrius Heyward-Bey received. Today DHB entered a no contest plea to his misdemeanor DUI charge stemming from a traffic stop back in April in which the Raider receiver’s blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit.
Instead of engaging in a lengthy legal process Heyward-Bey’s plea will result in a three-year probationary period with three months of DUI classes in additions to fines and court fees.
Of course the legal court is one thing. The kangaroo court of the NFL is quite another.
No telling if Roger Goodell will seek further action against DHB in the form of a fine or suspension. Though the charges might have only been of the misdemeanor variety it is completely irrelevant to the league when it comes to violations of the conduct code.
