Reggie McKenzie has been saving whatever cap space he has left for a rainy day. After two preseason games the sky is starting to get a little cloudy over the silver and black. So you can understand why McKenzie is looking more and more likely to dip into his reserve fund for available free agents.
One such free agent the Raiders have some interest in is Cal alum and former Patriot defensive end Andre Carter. According to Paul Gutierrez the Raiders worked out Carter today in order to see what the veteran defender has left in the tank.
Carter’s 2011 was cut short due to a torn quadriceps tendon. Despite missing out on the final two games of the season Carter still registered 10 sacks for the third time in the last six years.
Overall the former Golden Bear has 76 career sacks and could provide the Raiders with another veteran presence on the defensive line. Carter is a very familiar with the Bay Area having attended high school in San Jose, college in Berkeley and played the first half of his career in San Francisco.
