With only one more game left until the preseason officially ends the Oakland Raiders continue to lookover talent in hopes of finding the perfect mix for the 53-man roster. Yesterday Oakland signed return specialist Roscoe Parrish who at least got one practice to impress prior to Thursday’s finale.
The same can’t be said for cornerback Coye Francies who was cut by the Seahawks and then reportedly claimed by the Raiders last night. For Francis, if he’s lucky, he’ll see some action against his former employer tomorrow night. That will be the Cordova High alum’s only chance to make his case for a job.
Coye has a checked past that includes stops at two universities, one JUCO, stints with now three NFL teams, a cup of coffee in the UFL and for good measure a locker room altercation during his time in Cleveland.
Can’t read too much into the signing of Francies. At this junction Reggie McKenzie is just trying to see what sticks. The cornerback situation is dire considering there is no depth behind two aging vets. Coye’s best case scenario is making the practice squad but even that is a long shot considering Friday is the day of final cut downs.
