The next time we see Aaron Curry could be the last time we see Aaron Curry in Silver and Black. Not trying to read too much into Oakland’s decision to put Curry on the PUP list, effectively cutting his season in half. Fact of the matter is this is a contract year for Curry and he’s clearly at the crossroads.
As it stands Curry’s knee kept him out of all of camp and now threatens to rob him of the entire season. By league rules players placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list are ineligible to even practice, let alone play, until after the 6th week of the season.
That means Curry will not only have to improve his health but his conditioning as well. That also means a rookie like Miles Burris or perhaps some free agent awaiting a call will have more than enough opportunities to prove themselves.
More to the point of this post though, Curry’s career could be over in Oakland. If he can’t play then he can’t prove anything to the new regime that surely had reservations about his abilities and bloated rookie contract as well.
Should Curry’s knee problem rob him of an entire season then in all likelihood he’d find himself out of Oakland come the conclusion of the year. But that’s looking very far down the road. Here and now its all about Curry getting stronger and healthier to help the team in anyway he can this season even if its only moral support he can offer.
