It was the only bit of controversy that Reggie McKenzie encountered during his house cleaning of the Oakland Raiders. Marcel Reece’s brief holdout of sorts hardly qualified as controversial though. Maurice Jones-Drew this wasn’t. Still, Recce’s refusal to sign his contract tender thus keeping him away from all of the offseason OTAs did create for a bit of concern. Combine that with how little Reece was used during the preseason and there was reason to speculate just what type of future the Raiders and Reece had together.
Well, if Jason LaCanfora’s Tweet is indeed correct then Reece and the Raiders will be together for the foreseeable future. Apparently both sides have agreed on a contract extension that will supposedly be signed prior to tonight’s kickoff.
Hopefully what we didn’t see in the preseason was just an anomaly. Reece is the most dangerous weapon in all of football at the fullback position. One could argue that missing the entire offseason program hindered Reece as he learned Greg Knapp’s new offense. However, as I see it Knapp is the one who must adjust his scheme to get Reece more involved. But at least we know they’ll have a few years to work that out once Reece inks his new deal.
