Can’t say we didn’t see this one coming. The second Jacoby Ford was on crutches we all expected the worst. Well, our nightmares have become real. After plenty of rumoring the Raiders have confirmed that Ford will undergo foot surgery.
Making matters worse is that there is no timetable for his return with the generic statement of “he will be out for a significant amount of time” being the only estimate for his return.
Oh and it gets worse. Dennis Allen also confirmed that this is ‘basically’ the same injury that cut short Ford’s season last year. It’s too early to start the discussion of Ford’s career being over before it started but this is not the type of ailment that speed guys like Ford bounce back from with no problems.
Naturally we wish Jacoby nothing but the best and hope he can return to form in the near future. If nothing else at least the Raiders took a more proactive approach to Ford’s injury than they did with Darren McFadden’s last season. No need to play the game of injury speculation all season long. Shut him down and let him do what he can to get healthy.
For the Raiders losing Ford only exasperates the continued struggles of both the offense and special teams.
