I’m through talking bout Greg Knapp. Dude couldn’t coordinate a two man parade and we know this. I’m sick of his excuses but more importantly I’m sick of using him as an excuse. At some point the leaders of the Oakland Raiders need to step up, specifically captains Carson Palmer and Darren McFadden.
Yes, the zone blocking scheme is making McFadden more useless than JaMarcus Russell’s savings account. Still, Run DMC is among of the NFL elite as a playmaker. He and Palmer need to figure out a way to get the most of any and everyone of Knapp’s poorly designed plays.
At some point this is going to come down to the players. Forget the coaching staff.
Both Palmer and McFadden have the deck stacked against them. They’re square pegs being forced into a round hole. I get that. What I don’t get is why the competitive edge that has led both men to such lucrative careers in football hasn’t kicked in.
Today against Pittsburgh the Raiders have a chance to make a statement.
Maybe this season was over before it started. So what? There is still more than three months of football left to play. If the Raiders are going to get anything from this season besides a paycheck and a sit down with Reggie McKenzie then it will be on the team’s top players to set the tone.
Between Palmer and McFadden there is enough talent to carry this team to victory on any given Sunday. Those two must put the offense (dare I say the entire team?) on their backs and breakout with a big game. Could it happen today? Well, it had better otherwise we could be looking at the Raiders going 0-for-September to begin the season and that would pretty much end the season.
