The Raiders pass rush, like the Raiders running game, has all but vanished. Last season the Raiders were among the NFL’s best at pressuring the passer, just like they were at running the rock. Through four games the Silver and Black have just 3 quarterback sacks. That’s why veteran defensive end Andre Carter was signed and that’s why his debut Sunday could come at the perfect time.
The Atlanta Falcons feature one of the most high-powered offensive attacks in pro football. Among their many weapons are two playmakers out wide in Julio Jones and Roddy White plus a Hall of Fame tight end named Tony Gonzalez patrolling the middle of the field.
Safe to say getting pressure on Matt Ryan is kind of a big deal. So it’s kind of important that Carter is going to work his way into the rotation as the Raiders are sure to see plenty of passes.
Last season Carter racked up 10 sacks for the New England Patriots before tearing his left quadriceps tendon. On his career the former UC Berkley alum has 76 sacks so he knows a thing or two about getting to the QB.
