20. Count ‘em. The names of 20 Oakland Raiders can be found on the official injury report for Sunday’s game in Kansas City.
The good news is that only 2 of those 20 are listed as “Out” for the clash with Oakland’s longtime rivals. Both Khalif Barnes and Shawntae Spencer are still out of action with no eminent return appearing on the horizon.
11 other Raiders have been given the “Probable” designation including Darren McFadden, Tommy Kelly, Sebastian Janikowski and Richard Seymour among others. That leaves 7 as “Questionable” to suit up Sunday.
While none of the injuries are serious enough to cause concern it has affected the way in which Dennis Allen went about preparing his team for the game. His quote given to the Sacramento Bee illustrates that.
“We’ve got some guys with some soreness. It’s just a matter of making sure that they’re ready to go come Sunday, so we listed a few of them as questionable.”
Included in that “Questionable” category are the likes of Desmond Bryant, Matt Shaughnessy and Taiwan Jones.
Certainly depth has been an issue for Oakland this year and the compiling injuries won’t help in that category. But you go to war with the roster you have, not the roster you want. Coach Allen has been dealing with these problems from the start of the season so it’s nothing new under the sun. Hopefully the coming week holds both victory and improved health for the Silver and Black.
